Ramaiah Institute of Technology is an autonomous private engineering college affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University. OVERVIEW

Electronics and Communication Engineering is concerned with the design, development, manufacture and application of electronic devices, circuits and systems. Electronics and Communication Engineering lays greater emphasis on deep understanding of fundamental principles and state of the art knowledge about Electronic Devices and Circuits, Computer Architecture and Microprocessors, VLSI and Embedded systems, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Analog and Digital Communication, Digital Signal Processing, Microwave and Broadband Communications. The department has well-qualified and experienced faculty with a healthy student to staff ratio of 15:1. Out of which seven are Doctorates, sixteen are pursuing Ph.D and remaining are Post-Graduates. Initially, RIT was affiliated to Mysore University, later with the Bangalore University (until 2002) and now Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. Since August 2007, RIT has been academically autonomous for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. While VTU still awards the degrees, the college has academic freedom in framing its own schemes of study, curricula and student evaluation. DEPARTMENT HISTORY

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering was Establishment in the Year 1975 with initial intake of 60 for UG programme. In the year 2002, a PG programme in Digital Electronics & Communications and another PG programme in VLSI Design and Embedded Systems was started in 2013. Currently the UG programme has sanctioned intake of 120, PG programme in Digital Electronics & Communications has a sanctioned intake of 30, and the PG programme in VLSI Design and Embedded Systems has a sanctioned intake of 18. The department is accredited by Nation Board of Accreditation (NBA) four times for the period of 3 years each for UG and once for the period of 3 years for PG. History

RIT was founded, in 1962, by the late M. S. Ramaiah, who was an educationist, philanthropist, and infrastructure visionary. RIT is a part of Gokula Education Foundation (GEF) which owns and manages several educational institutions across various streams. The foundation also runs a Multi Specialty Hospital. RIT was the first institute started by the Gokula Education Foundation.

Administration

R. Seetharam, a son of M. S. Ramaiah, currently heads the college management as a director. The autonomy given to the institute by the government is only for academic matters. The governing council of the college includes two principals of other colleges, one bureaucrat from state government of Karnataka, one bureaucrat from central government of India, and one member from the VTU. DECADE OF EXCELLENCE

In 2002, M. Tech in Digital Electronics and Communication was started.
Tech Software Engineering was started in the year 2003.
The year 2004 witnessed starting of three M.Tech programs namely Computer Applications in Industrial drives, Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Digital Communications.

MSRIT voluntarily submitted applications to the NBA for the accreditation of several of its major UG programs. After assessment, in February 2001, NBA accorded accreditation to all the major departments of the Institute for their UG programs. Since then the Institute has been consistently participating in the accreditation process.
MSRIT participated in and successfully completed Phase I of TEQIP, Technical Education Quality Improvement program, an initiative of the Government of India with funding from World Bank. @MSRIT EARLY PERIOD (1962 – 1972)

MSRIT was founded by the great Philanthropist, Visionary, Industrialist and Educationist Dr. M.S. Ramaiah on 4th August 1962 offering Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering branches under the leadership of Prof. C.R. Ramachandran who was the first Principal.
Y. A. Prahalada Rao took over the responsibility of the HOD of Mechanical Engineering in the year 1963 and continued till 1977 as the Head. He became the Principal in 1971 and led the Institute commendably with the help of a dedicated team of faculty.
Five year integrated course in Civil Engineering was started in the year 1971 and was headed by Prof. M. Venkata Krishnaiah.

@RIT DECADE OF GROWTH

The journey of success continued with the addition of Electronics & Communication Engineering department in 1975. The department made a difference by acquiring top ranks at the University level and majority of the students had gone abroad for higher studies and many reached responsible positions in multinational companies.
In view of the Industrialization of Indian Economy, MSRIT started on time the Industrial and Production Engineering branch in the year 1979. With the addition of Metrology Laboratory in 1982 and Industrial Engineering Laboratory in 1983, the Institute of Engineers (India) recognized the Industrial and Production Engineering course offered by the Institute in 1989. Presently it is renamed as Industrial Engineering and Management.

@MSRIT DECADE OF CONSOLIDATION

Tech in Structural Engineering was started in the Civil department in the year 1983.

Activities

It partnered with ISRO in 2010 to build the StudSat nano satellite and RIT was chosen in 2012 to join the consortium of colleges that would assist ISRO in the StudSat-2 project. The institute is also credited for the development of India’s first unmanned air vehicle (UAV) with an autopilot system.
