RIT was founded, in 1962, by the late M. S. Ramaiah, who was an educationist, philanthropist, and infrastructure visionary. In 2002, M. Tech in Digital Electronics and Communication was started.
Tech Software Engineering was started in the year 2003.

The entrance test will have 180 multiple choice questions of 1 mark each. The exam will have three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each section will have 60 questions each. The candidates will get 3 hours to complete the exam. There will be no negative marking.

However, in the event of a tie in the test score the principle of least negative responses (Number of wrong answers) will be adopted. In addition, if required, other methods may be adopted to break ties. The entrance test is based on the existing syllabus of 10 + 2 / 12th STD / 2nd PUC. He is working on Major Research Project Funded by SIU worth INR 20 Lakh and successfully completed 3 minor research project funded by SIU amounting 4.5 lakh. He is recognized as a reviewer for various national and international journals. He was invited as a subject expert for viva-voce of research scholars at various universities. He has developed a first research lab at SIT in 2014, Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) Lab that is equipped with a manufacturing facility in Non-Conventional machining, conventional machining, digital manufacturing and material characterization technique.
